About The Event

The Holiday Stroll by the Bay Committee, a partnership between the OBEN Chamber of Commerce and The Oyster Bay Main Street Association, is happy to announce a Holiday Window Decorating Contest presented by the Oyster Bay Herald, a LI Herald Newspaper.

Nothing says holidays more than festive shop windows; inviting shoppers in from the cold for a warm drink, putting a sparkle in the eyes of a child as she sees the perfect gift for her little brother. The Oyster Bay and East Norwich hamlets will be aglow this winter with OBEN Chamber and Main Street Association Members partnering with local decorators and student-artists from the OBEN Schools.

Public on-line voting will begin Saturday, November 25th. Only one vote per email, so make sure you do all of your research (aka shopping) before voting. Public voting will select the finalists, and a distinguished panel of judges, including Town of Oyster Bay Clerk, Rich LaMarca, OBEN Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Francesco Ianni, PTA President, Moriah Parades and Student Council, President Matthew Zakarian, will choose the winner. The  results will be announced at the tree lighting on December 9th . The winner will also be featured in an Oyster Bay Herald story after the 1st of the year and will receive a half-page ad in the paper to be used to promote their business.

“We are so excited to add this to our growing Holiday Stroll by the Bay. This year’s theme is a Renaissance Holiday: Come and Rediscover. The hamlet has come so far with so many new businesses we thought it was time to celebrate,” said Chamber Secretary Susan Dembo. “We invite everyone to come and rediscover our local businesses.”

The window decorating contest is one enhancement of the event. Others include a warming station, gift wrapping and tree sales at the intersection of Audrey and South Streets, run by Oyster Bay Community Rowing. Theodore’s Books will be flying Mrs. Claus in on her sleigh to read to the younger patrons at 1, 2 and 3:00. Renaissance properties will be providing a reusable shopping bag to the first 450 families.

This is all in addition to the regular happenings, including the Oyster Bay Main Street Association’s ice rink and parents’ lounge and Wonderland Tree’s wagon rides with Raynham Hall’s tour guides. Oakcliff Sailing and Cooper’s Bluff sponsor Santa’s elves serving as taxi drivers, and featured programming will be provided by Kathryn Prinz Flute Magic Ensemble, OBEN High School Choir and Gone Dancin’ Dancers.
